Army Security Forces act as a military police force with duties extending into colonial occupation, overseeing reconstruction and acting as law enforcement for civilians. Contemporary Anglo-Saxon sources contend that the Viking force was comprised of powerful jarls who had banded together – despite their usual acrimonies – for mutual benefit. Thus, over a thousand years later, England – and many other parts of the UK – would not be what they are today without the profound influence the Vikings, and in particular the Great Heathen Army, had on its shores.

UNSC Army Reserve troops are trained and equipped similarly to other Army forces, but they are faced with missions more oriented towards garrison and support on existing colonies, with their personnel generally working and training on a part-time basis and returning into civilian life until called upon in an emergency. As the war escalated and colonies were increasingly destroyed, many Component Commands were “temporarily” disestablished and replaced by working groups on Reach and Earth that instead managed Army units via sector. Curiously, the Army was the only military branch in the UNSC not invited to the Hillside memorial ceremony at the end of the Human-Covenant War.

The service branch was established on December 21, 1935, as the Philippine Commonwealth Army. 16 December saw the opening of the last great German offensive of the war, the Battle of the Bulge. In December 1966, at the height of the Vietnam War, the Department of the Army announced that the Secretary of Defense had approved an increase in the number of Army helicopter pilots to be trained. The Ground Forces created and directed the Eastern European armies in its image for the remainder of the Cold War, shaping them for a potential confrontation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The Bangladesh Army, which was created from the Pakistan Army on the independence of Bangladesh, retain many British Indian Army traditions. Unlike western countries, the Army enjoyed a great deal of independence from government. The Army-McCarthy hearings dominated national television from April to June 1954. A subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Government Operations was seeking to learn whether Senator Joseph R. McCarthy had used improper influence to win preferential treatment for Pvt. The Ottoman government considered adopting a Western-style headdress for all personnel within the army, but the fez was favoured as it was more suited to the postures of the Islamic ritual prayer.
